help with BBC towers

I bought these and none of the holes line up on my '68 frame. Are these big block towers or what's the deal?? Are the years different from '67-'72, or????

not sure on the frame, but those look like 68-71 mounts, there is another set of 72 only mounts, but those should work.

If you are not interested in drilling new holes, I will purchase the towers from you so you can get 72 BBC towers. I need the towers you have. If not, where did you find them?

Re: help with BBC towers

The early towers are hard to find the steel part for and easy to get the rubber parts for and the 72 only ones are easy to find the steel and very hard to find the rubber's... Hard to tell from the photo but those do look like the early model towers, but the frame holes should at least line up....

Re: help with BBC towers

I recall having to drill new holes in a '71 cross member for big block mounts. I don't know which mounts they were either so I guess am not much help. NO FEAR...LOL!

This is not accurate.

It's easy to find 67-71 SBC rubber mounts and difficult to find the 67-71 BBC rubber mounts, which is why there's numerous posts on using SBC rubber mounts with a large washer on those towers.

The 67-71 BBC towers are findable from any of our supporters. WES has a few sets when I last talked with him.

72 BBC mounts use the common SBC and BBC rubber or poly mounts found in 73 and later vehicles. I have a set. They are also rarer than hen's teeth from what I could tell when I bought mine last year.

To the original poster, when I did mine, the top holes lined up and I had to drill the bottom ones.

Do you have them in the correct position on the frame? The V8 holes are further towards the front than the inline 6.

Re: help with BBC towers

To add to the above post be sure you have the lft on the lft and so on. They go in the front holes on the frame and the bottom foot should sweep back. I think the holes should be there, but I have never put them in a 72, only 67-70. Either way the top two holes should line up and the only hole that you may need to drill would be the bottom foot.

Re: help with BBC towers

Thanks everyone for the help. I got looking at it tonight and saw that most of the later frames were "notched out" where the towers went. I notched mine and everything fell into place. I believe there is a difference in frames between '67-'72 somewhere. Anyone have a clue??

The 67' s had a wider top frame rail because BB was not offered that year. I thought all 68' s had the thinner frame rail. Maybe an early 68 frame?

Maybe so, I'll keep researching. Seems like I find something new everyday.
