Those that have electric fans and thermostatic switches what temp is good to set them to come on with? (with sender on outside of radiator not in the coolant.)

Re: electric fan question

I don't have electric fan setup, but I want to do the swap one day so this interests me as well.

I'm going to take a wild stab and say, if you have a 180* thermostat, for instance, then set the fans to come on at 180*. As soon as the thermostat opens and that hot coolant leaves the block and enters the radiator I want it to start cooling.

But then I have no experience with senders outside the radiator.

Re: electric fan question

I have an adjustable sensor with the probe in the rad fins. It is kinda a once its set, its set, thing. works great. When the rad gets hot the fans come on, driving down the highway the rad cools off, then the fans shut off, they are not needed. What i like the best is once you shut the truck off the fans run until the rad cools down, about 30-60 seconds then they shut off automaticaly.

This man is on the money! You want to stand outside the truck holding the upper radiator hose. When you feel it get hot (thermostat open) this is the point you want your fans to kick on.
