Look what I found!!
I decided I would clean out the glove box in my truck this morning, I found an old calander from 1975, In the back was full history of oil changes, new tires, ect. The list goes from 1975 to 1992! I also found a stack of reciepts for all of the years not listed in the calander! I guess now I have proof that my truck only has 82,000 miles!! Thanks Gramps!!!

Re: Look what I found!!
documentation is great...that's why I'm keeping every receipt for my 69... just in case, ya know, in the future I sell it, receipts can bring in extra money...
reminds me of my buddy's 78 Blazer... highly modified all around, mostly new stuff, aftermarkets to hell in the drivertain... he showed me an envelop which was packed full, about two inches thick of some of the receipts he had for it... that Blazer was a true monster, 4" lift, 38" swampers, 350 with lots of parts and lots of power... that thing idled up stuff my Z71 had trouble with... then he traded it for a four wheeler update: lol, and to add spice to that... I see the person he traded his 78 Blazer to has it for sale now...for cheaper than he was selling it for... so...anybody want to donate 3000 dollars to me?

Re: Look what I found!!
I went today and bought a notebook to keep a record of everything I do to the truck. I figured if Gramps took the time to do I might as well continue the tradition for my kids or even grandkids.

Re: Look what I found!!
Wow, that's priceless! Glad you found all that stuff. I wish everyone documented like that. All I got was the manual and the P-plate, but I was happy that was in there.

Re: Look what I found!!
Some of those old guys were regular nuts for record-keeping, but there's nothing wrong with that. Similar deal with my blue '72 C-20. It was purchased new from an area Chevy dealership by a local veterinarian. He literally kept track of EVERY TANK OF GAS he ever put in it, including gallons, price per gallon, mileage, where he filled, etc. from the first fill-up at a few hundred miles in December of '71 until he sold it to the second owner in '04. I imagine that since he had his vet box on it for making calls out to peoples' farms and the likes he kept track off all that as business expenses. Minor repairs, service and so forth are also recorded, and there's a couple of photocopies of the build sheet. I also have a ton of paperwork for my other '72 C-20, which was coincidentally sold used but less than a year old by the same dealer that sold the blue one new. Hopefully I can get both restored/restified in time to take a drive to show those owners.

will not look as weathered as the original, vendors sell the stickers, & they are blank, then lots of us here have the EXCEL file to set it up, then just print it off w/ a good quality laser printer and whalaa

Re: Look what I found!!
That looks like my grandpa's writing, he was from Oklahoma too. Thanks for bringing back a good memory. It's men like our grandfathers who are the real reason we have 30+ year old truck toys to play with.
Oh yea, it also reminds me that I need to go Oil & Grease my spark plugs Last edited by Americanrider; 06-14-2006 at 01:44 PM. |
