Re: Looky what the lumber truck dropped off today
Hey that's some nice wood, and it's great to work with too. If you lived up here in Northern Ohio theres a real abundance of it now. With the "Ash bore bug" we're losing Ash trees by the hundreds. One thing though after tree dies out the lumber has some very cool coloring in the grain. Keep up the great work, latter Tom,

I feel your pain... I could probably afford only two of those white ash boards for my truck too But seriously, that's gonna look great, especially with a blue truck! What kind/color stain are you going to use?

What size stock did you buy? Are you going to finish milling it and install it yourself? I built a table out of white ash...it turned out pretty good
If you get some boards with some brown in them it finishes really nice. |

I'll just use clear Spar Varnish. My dad used the same in his 53. I'll get pics later.

Re: Looky what the lumber truck dropped off today
that's gonna look sweet. I like the grain pattern. its more pronounced than the mahogany I have for my stepside. (but I got mine for free so its what I will use)
BTW, have you seen the instructions from GMC Paul's site on how to mill the boards? let us know how it goes. I am very interested in progress info. Last edited by 68C15; 06-17-2006 at 10:01 AM. |

Re: Looky what the lumber truck dropped off today
ash is one of my favorites, up here in wisconson it,s even cheaper than red oak for some odd reason. but i'd perfer the ash even if it were more money. last i checked i could getit for $1.80 bd/ft but that was 2 years ago and oak was $2.50 it cost less than $50 for the last long fleet box i did
