Gas filler modification

Ive been batting the idea around for a while, take the little flipper thing from a later GM gas filler and graft it into a 60-66 filler. So when i was cleaning out my dads stockpile of parts i cam across the filler from our Blazer. Asked him if i could have it and he said sure, so i started plotting how i was going to cut the the old filler to add the flipper in when i realized that, when trimmed a little bit,the flipper fits inside the the 60-66 filler. So i welded it in and this is what i got.It looks deep in the photo but its only set in there an inch.

Re: Gas filler modification

60 GMC, nice job. But if you don't mind me asking, why would you want to put one in there anyway?

Re: Gas filler modification

very nice, iirc, it also helps the newer autoshut off pumps stop before there's gas all the way up there.

definitly should help with any gas comming out, but a new rubber gasket would do the same...

Re: Gas filler modification

Best way to keep gas from sloshing out is to put on a new cap. The replacements you buy are non-vented, due to an EPA mandate.

Let me correct that. They are supposed to vent to allow air in, but not out.
