New Wheels and Tires

Finally got some new wheels and tires for my baby.

It was a tough choice 'cause I wanted to customize it, but still look classic, still look like a truck, and not look like everyone else on the road.

Ended up getting the American Racing Salt Flat Specials, (which I'm real happy with) and BF Goodrich Radial TA's. The great guys at Dunn Tire hooked me up with a great deal and flawless installation ! Highly recommended them to anyone in the Syracuse NY area.

Looks like a new truck with the new shoes and the lowered suspension (2/4 from ECE).

Here's the specs:
Custom Polished Salt Flat Specials with 5.5" backspacing on 8"x15" wheels
BFG Radial TA's 265/60 R15 all around
ECE Drop Springs -2" front, -4" rear

Before and after photos attached.

Now, I've got to finish that bed!

Those look really good!

I'm thinking the same except I may go cast center.

.....and I know what you mean in that it's hard to find something that someone else hasn't already done.

I love the cast centered ones, but I want 18/20's. No dice.

The cast ceter wheels look badass, but I didn't think it worked on my truck. I'd love to see a photo of one of our trucks with those wheels.

Re: New Wheels and Tires

I think the polished look good on your truck mainly because you have a more deluxe model....upper and lower moldings and 2 colors.

The cast center wheels may be more suited for a more "plain jane" model.....................Hell I don't know anymore!

I've actually layed in bed at night wondering what the hell wheels I'm gonna put on mine!

Never the less.....those wheels look good on yours. Need to see the whole truck with bed back on.

Re: New Wheels and Tires

I like those, NICE. Could I ask how you figured backspacing ? 5.5 seems like a lot to me, is that because the disk brake fronts are wider than the drum front setups ? Thanks.

The original ralleyes had a 4.5" backspacing.

I wanted to fill up the wheel wells more without using 10" wheels, so I added an inch to the backspacing to bring the wheels and tires out more.

Nothing to do with the brakes.... all cosmetic.

Then you must have subtracted an inch if you wanted to bring them out more. Adding an inch would have tucked them into the wheelwells more. 5.5" of backspacing will tuck more than 4.5".

Green Machine, you are correct in your thought process though. I've got 5.25" backspacing on my '67 with a disc conversion. The aftermarket spindles coupled w/ the disc conversion set my front end a little wider. I am running 1-1/2" spacers out back to make up for it there. Without the spacers my rear tires were rubbing the side of the bed tubs.

I always get that wrong -- it's *bacK*spacing. I reversed my numbers.

Re: New Wheels and Tires

Hmm, ok, so the backspacing is 3.5 inches on those ???

67fleet, yep thats what I was thinking, I see some wheels on here that I like, but always have to consider what the front and rear axle config might be, both my trucks are drum, with the 68 having the skinny rear end, the 70 has the wider one, no disks on either. Seems there is about 3/4 inch difference each side between narrow rear - wide rear/frontdrum - and front disk, so the 1 1/2 spacer on each side makes perfect sense to me.
