How many trucks does it take to make one?

Here are some pictures of my Sons 63 shortwide. We are going to start the long tedious gourney of bodywork to make it sum what strait before we take it to the local cheap paint shop. I hope to have it in the paint booth in the next 2 weeks. Being that my son is out of school now I know where he is going to be spending his time. Behind a long board. I have a gallon of bondo so we should be able to get it done with that!!!!

Looks like either a medium blue or white. I am hoping for white. I have gotten all the trim powder coated shiny black so I think either color will work. I still need to find a better running strait 6 for it. The one that is in it smokes kinda bad. It may just need to be taken out and ran for a while. It sat for 15 years in a field of blackberries before I got it. I have a friend that would part with a great rebuilt 235 from a 63 and he only wants $300 for it so I might swap it before I give it to my Son. What color would you paint it?

Do both! Blue with a white top! These trucks look great with the original two tone look.

That is a great Idea. I hadn't thought of that. The problem I have is how do you seperate the white and blue. Was there a molding that seperated the colors on these models?

yellow with a white top and seperate it at the little line around the windshield frame. Just my opinion,but blue would be sweet as well.

There is a body line that can be used around the back. On the A-pillar use the separation between the pillar and the cowl panels. Something like this:

That red and white one is one of my all time favorites. If I did a fleetside it would be done in that style.

We plan on painting the 64 shortwide with Gaurds Red and White. I am still looking for the trim pieces. What I am finding is they are expensive. Like $500 for a set and that doesn't include the custom piece for behind the doors on the cab.

Try Dan's Classics in Portland or All American Classics in Vancouver. You might be able to find a trim piece that'll work for around the back of the cab off another bodystyle truck. Like you see in the rear shot of the teal/white cab in this thread. Just a thought if you don't want to spend the $$$ but still want two-tone.

After I started thinking about the paint job I remembered that I got all the Trim (Bumper, Grill, Mirrors) powder coated gloss black. I dont know if the two tone white and blue would look good with a white top. I think I am getting into to many colors. I think I am either going to go with solid blue or solid red or solid white. The truck is going to end up in Phoenix so the white would probably be the best from the standpoint of not holding to much heat. The interior is going to be gray so from that standpoint I can paint it just about any color. I figure when it comes home from the paint shop I will know what color it is. Thanks for the info and the pictures. I am kind of hoping Ian's 64 shortwide looks like the one in the picture you sent, that is a great looking truck.

At least you are getting close to paint.
I still need to weld up about 50 various sized holes before I can get
it painted. I get some of the weirdest looks from people while driving
this old truck around town. Everyone asks what color I'm going to paint it.
I always say primer!

I have decided on Arrival Blue, It's a GM 2003 door gam, under the trunk lid, and under the hood paint. I didn't know that GM used different paint under the hoods and trunk lids. Anyway I like the color so I am going to stick with that, besides its $200 less than the red paint I was looking at. The paint is a base coat clear coat and the only other paint job I have done was a single stage urethane so We will see how much trouble I can get in with this paint. Im sure you will get past primer someday and thanks for the vote of confidence. Good luck

That's a nice color. I think you can get the vettes in that color. That 63's gonna look good!

I'm going with a midnight blue, almost black. I've seen it on Porches and Audi's, but I'll probably add some black to their mix.

I had a 66 Bonneville that was painted either nightwatch Blue or Midnight Blue. It was realy close to black in color. You might want to look at it.
