Project update pics
Well I have actually been working on the truck while also doing a 510sqf addition on my house.
I decided to use Trex 1"x6" decking material to lay down for the bed. I also changed the layout in the bed to add 2 additional bed strips. I planed the material down to the standard 25/32" thickness. Eveything went together pretty easily after laying it out. Here's some updated pics: The material itself was extremely easy to use and will hold up very well if someone chooses to actually use the truck. There's still some manufacturing dust and debris in/on the bed so don't crack on me for it I still also have to wipe down the boards. They're a little scuffed up. I also received my NEW Aluminum radiator from Summit. Looks really good and you can not beat their price! Weld on brackets will be here in the next couple of days. They got shipped to the wrong address somehow? I have also gotten the wiring harnes into the dash, rear and engine compartment. The engine compartment is not as of yet run completely as I am toying with the idea concealing a lot of it if I can..That's all for now.

Re: Project update pics
Looks very cool!I like the woodbed with shiny strips and the color of the body!
I wonder if there is a woodfloor for a long fleetsidebed? Keep the pics coming and progress running! |

Re: Project update pics
Looks sweet! I also love the color of your truck! I would also conceal the wiring if at all possible. The only wires visible on my truck are the plug wires...everything else has been tucked and routed out of sight.
Moneyeater, the only configuration wood beds were NOT offered by the factory where short bed fleetsides (for the 73-87 years).

Re: Project update pics
The bed floor, whether it be wood or metal, are not easily removed for hauling (I am kind of confused as to what you mean by wanting to remove it to haul). The wood floor is a bolt in deal, similar to the steel floor...the wood floor just has a bunch more parts to it.
EDIT: it looks like I contributed to a thread hijack...sorry jr2.

Re: Project update pics
You´re right that it wouldn´t be 30 second throw in and pull out deal like a bedmat!
I think Bruce Horkey Cabinetry or something like that was the name of a company that made woodbedfloors to put in for show and pull out for go but i can´t find that advertisement anymore! |

Re: Project update pics
I found the advertisement! Its called show deck bedliner from
http://www.horkeyswoodandparts.com/ the bad part is that it´s 1000 $ for a longbed and then shipping, taxes and customs are added! I guess i´ll try to make one myself , other than that there are more importend things to do to my truck first! The motor should be running and the drivetrain should be complete before i start any fancy showthings! Last edited by moneyeater; 06-20-2006 at 11:36 AM. |

JR2 that's a cool idea use the Trex decking material for bed wood. One thing for sure is it will never rot again. You may want to consider taping cardboad over the fins on that new radiator until you get it ready for the final install. It's really easy to get them all bent up taking it in and out...

I did stick some cardboard covers on the radiator not too long after that pic. What you were seeing is just after the radiator arrived I wanted to just get a visual on the fit and look and to give you guys a peek. As of today the brackets are mocked up on it and ready to be welded on. I set the the bed on the framerails the other night but am waiting for bolts that were missing from the kit to mount it. Thanks for the great comments. It's been a while but the thing is coming together nicely. I can't wait to get it done so I can start working on my other projects!!

Had to paint over the clear license plate illuminator panels. They all come with the panel. I used an aluminum colored paint and they looked awesome.I painted the insides of the panel so they still had a shiney smooth finish on the outside. You can also get them with a gray fished housing. The brackets were a cinch to make and they look a 100x better than the stockers and brighter. Nuthin fancy but could be if ya wanted them to be.
