Front grill and side trim question on a 1970 ???

I know they are both made of aluminum, is the grill chrome plated ? Looks like it could be. Is the side trim chrome plated or ???
Just trying to determine what to use to best clean that stuff up, parts are off of truck now.
I just don't want to waste my time using aluminum polish on chome, or scratch aluminum usng chrome polish. I know it sounds like a dumb question I should know, just want to do it right. Thanks.

Your parts are anodized aluminum. If the finish is dull there is not much you can do to bring it back. You could have it stripped and re-anodized or chromed
Or buy a new one. They make repo chrome steel grills.

That's not entirely true. You can strip the anodizing, repolish and then clear coat.

I have heard that you can use oven cleaner (something about the caustic acid) to strip the anodizing, but I cannot vouch for this.

Someone know more about the stripping process?

Re: Front grill and side trim question on a 1970 ???

Well, just went and had a go at the grill. Used Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish first, then followed up with Turtle Wax chrome polish. Looks like it is going to turn out just fine, just a little elbow grease. Maybe the anodizing is ok yet, just getting the gunk off, anyway looks good enough for me. I'll post a pic if anyone is interested when its done.
