Help with wiring up my new Taurus Electric Fan

I got this fan last week at the junkyard and was wanting some help wiring it up. I'd like the fan to run when the truck is running. Can you guys help me with this. I'm assuming that I'll need a basic Bosch relay for the job and a fusible link.

I believe it is the two speed fan which I'm sure will complicate things. Tim240Z gave me, but I'm too stupid to make any sense out of them. It appears that there are 3 wires coming out of the fan. I assume one is the ground and the other two are for High and Low Speed on the Fan.

I have actually done this retrofit on my friend's 67 stepside, i'll try to get some pics. Yes it is a two speed setup one wire is ground I believe it is the all black one the other two wires one is for low speed and the other is high speed. If memory serves the two wires for the + are actually a different guage, the heavier being the faster one, which I would recomend. We hooked his up thru an aftermarket thermostatic control which i would also recomend. The control was cheap about 50 bucks. The only hitch to this is that the high speed wire draws somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 or 26 amps. To avoid the head scratching like i did at first when you keep blowing the 20 amp fuse in the thermostatic relay use a 30 amp relay to power the fan and switch on the relay with the thermostatic control. I found the fan fit extremely well, i just made some mounts to bolt it to the the shroud mounts. I read in an s10 conversion book this fan pulls the most cfm of any oem fan so it's a good choice, sorry to go on so long but i hope this helps.

Anybodyelse? I just want this fan to basically come on when the truck is running and stay on. I'm not going to run it through the thermostat or anything like that. I did the great Headlight Relay over in the FAQ's but I need details on how to rig it up.

Why would you want to waste that much energy on keeping the the fan running all the time? As mentioned, they draw like 25+ amps while just running on high speed. I've got electric fans in my 89, and they rarely come on, only if you are sitting in traffic for an extended period of time.

It is well worth the money to buy a temp sensor to install on your intake, thermostat cover, head, or even a probe for the radiator!

I agree with Russell. My electric fan rarely comes on, and it would be a lot of draw and wear and tear.

Hey what diameter is that fan? I like the looks of it. Does GM use any fans similar to this one on anything? I know they use the dual fans but what about single large diameter ones? And what year Taurus did that one come off of? thanks.

There are several ways to do it, but I'd recommend using a Temp sensor, & a man. override switch so you can turn it on & off when or if you need it. Maybe it adds too much complexity for you're situation, but I like the idea of having control over that fan if I need it.

Also, you should definitely use a HD relay because those fans draw a LOT of power @ start-up (around 100 amps, I believe).

still want to wire this thing up just to run all the time. I know it doesn't make since but that's the way I want it. Hell, the fan cost me $11 at the yard so it's not like I can't go get another one. I also only drive me truck once a week if that.
