1976 dually 3500 ???'s

I just recently picked up a dually and have a few questions about it I though you guys could help me out with.
1) My passenger rear fender is busted. Any good sources for one or do they interchange from left to right. They look the same and I found another drivers one here locally for sale.
2) Can I replace hydroboost brakes with normal brake canister and mastercyl?
3) Is the 454 flywheel going to work on my small block 400.
Thanks in advance. Pleasure to join your site.
Thanks Jeff

welcome to the 1 ton club! (lol)

I also have a busted fender (as you can see). How bad is yours broken? Bondo should fix cracks like mine.

1. I don't think they interchange, but haven't looked into it.
2. I'd imagine you can. And I don't blame you for wanting to change, I know first hand what happens when your engine dies going down hill with a heavy trailer.
3. Big Block and Small Block flywheels aren't interchangeable.

Re: 1976 dually 3500 ???'s

Thanks I appreciate the response. I got the baby dually with just two doors. Is yours a big block truck? Mine was but someone pilfered it for a motorhome so I am looking to stick my mild 400 in it. Mine is strictly a work truck and like you said I don't really want to run out of brakes pulling a trailer of shingles or siding. I got the truck and a running, driving 3/4 ton 4wd "parts" suburban for 500$. My fender is quite a bit worse than yours broke front and back and missing about 3 inches by 8 inch chunks. If I get to it I will attempt to upload a few pics of the truck. Thanks for your input. Jeff

Re: 1976 dually 3500 ???'s

A whole ton of stuff should transfer from the 'burb under the hood.

as for the fender, i've seen many like that. not sure who carries those fenders...

and oh BTW, mine's a 77.

Since you don't have the stock engine, i'd say that it'd be better to switch to conventional brakes. Believe me when I say the hydraulic system is mind boggling.

Are you gonna keep the burb in running condition or as a parts truck?

Re: 1976 dually 3500 ???'s

Here is a good site for the dually fenders. This is the cheapest I could find. Others were $500 each . Good luck with the project . I have a 1 ton dually as well. Fun trucks, but a pain in the ass to get around in.

Re: 1976 dually 3500 ???'s

Thanks for the replies and help. I am parting the suburban out. Parts are going to be split between 3 other trucks. As I also have a 78 swb 2wd and a 73 4 door 3/4 2wd. That looks like a sweet deal on the rear fender probably be the way I go. Thanks. As for the flywheel I know the 350 one won't work I just wasn't sure about the 454 one as it was under the seat. Thanks guys. Jeff

Re: 1976 dually 3500 ???'s

so the fenders are 56" long?

I was thinking of contacting a local fiberglass guy and having my fenders made 6" longer on each side with new light mounts so they don't stick out like bricks..is that possible?
