67 4x4

I just bought a 67 4x4 step side. It had a straight six and a military front axle. I think it was originaly a game ranger or forestry truck. I have pulled out the six and in the process of installing a 454 efi. I am having problems with the motor mounts. I think I need a different cross member for a V8. Can anyone help.

Re: 67 4x4

you need to do a search on big block into 4x4's. ive seen many threads on this board going over that swap. no 67-72 4x4's came with big blocks, but lots of people have put em in. did you look over in the 4x4 area of this board?

and welcome to the board

You need a crossmember and engine mount towers. You`re gonna be tight into the firewall.
What do you mean "Military" front axle?

Re: 67 4x4

I am also wondering what the |" Military" axle might be. Should just be a closed knuckle 44. Unless it was changed out.

Re: 67 4x4

Thanks for the help. I have never seen this front axle on a regular production truck. The truck is all factory. The only mod. was the dash was cut out to fit a different radio. My plans: fully restore body and fram. 454 proflow efi (done). super charge. 10+ lift and a set of 38 x 12.50.

Re: 67 4x4

I was told my closed knuckle was a military axle when I first got my truck... I then learned that the closed knuckle is just what came in these older trucks...
