Is everone having problems with this or is it just me? How are you handling the problem? i know you can get replacment parts but welding this area could be tough! could change hole top!

Re: Rust above windshield inside cab

Many ppl just junk the cab once that happens, but they did just start selling this item a few years ago.
The sealant in the drip rail on top gets dry and shrinks over time, seems to be more of an issue on south and western trucks. Then, it rains and get wet inside there. Then, once it starts to rust a little, the rust holds the water when it rains again, and it evolves into a real seriouse issue. Personally, I would have to inspect the whole thing inbetween the inner and outer cab roof before I'd go replacing that panel... it would suck to replace it and then drop thousands in paint and body, only to discover that the surrounding area was already rusting, and only pops through AFTER you've spent your life savings.

Re: Rust above windshield inside cab

I have the same problem at first it was devistating. (My truck is from Houston and salt gets in everything down there.) I found a 71 AC cab for a replacement. it is in a lot better shape. My 72 cab is rusting so bad around the windshield pull the rubber back a little and the rust falls out aroud the seal. I hated replacing it but it seemed to be the only logical desision.

I believe Calvin told me a few weeks ago that they are making a replacement for that area or maybe even the whole inside roof.

Re: Rust above windshield inside cab

Personaly if you replace the cab or just the bad area I would make sure you get a good rust product up in side their before repainting. I like to tip the cabs over and shoot por15 (or =) up the A-posts,thru the visor holes, light hole in the rear of the roof and up the B-posts as well. Just soak the roof area and the A & B posts with product to treat and seal all the metal and then clean out the drip rails and do the same out their. This should help give a life time of protection since the factory did nothing to help make these areas last. I had to replace my California cab because of way to much rust and when I fould a good solid replacement for it I built the Tip & Flip just so I could get into very area posible before spending $$$ on paint and labor only to have it happen again. People always think of rust treating other parts of their truck but this is one of the most over looked area on these things.

Re: Rust above windshield inside cab

Mine has the same issue, it's made sealing the windshield a pain. The rust on my cab isn't as bad as what 1LoC10 has shown but my windshield will leak in a massive downpour.

Re: Rust above windshield inside cab

Yup same problem on my 70 project and my parts 72, 70 even has it above the doors. Luckily, my 68 driver is pretty good. Havn't decided how to repair it yet, I can get a good roof section for $50, might as well chop the top if I'm gonna go to that much work.

Re: Rust above windshield inside cab

I get a little water through mine when it rains. Has caused the floor to start rusting. I'm afraid to start fixing it. The project might be bigger than I am.
