Re: tire considerations needed
I'm planning on running 18x8 and 20x10 too. I've considered my options over the years and have decided to run BFG KDW's with the new tread pattern. Front tire size will be 255/55/18, rears 305/50/20. I already have the tires for the front (got a smokin' deal on eBay).
About 7 years ago, Sport Truck magazine had a project truck called the circus wagon. It was a 68 short fleet side with air ride and 18x8 and 20x10 torq thrust wheels. It was this truck that got me started in all this. They ran 255/45/18 on the front of the circus wagon for awhile, but found out some potholes caused flatspots on the front rims, so they moved up to the 255/55/18 size for more sidewall. As for what I'm running on the back, well I like the hot rod stance and the 255/55/18's are 29" tall, so I needed a considerable tire on the back to get the rake I wanted. 305/50/20's are 32" tall. I realize this is a little big, but I've had my mind made up for a few years. If you do a search for danny ewing, you can see his 69 C10 on air ride with 255/55/18's and 295/50/20's. I really like the look, and with that much sidewall it should be a fairly comfortable ride. I have seen reviews that say the KDW II tires are loud, but thats not really a concern of mine right now. Right now the look is more important than if the tires are "loud"... chances are the people who say the tires are loud would say my truck is "loud" too! Dang that was a long post. EDIT: On the back of the circus wagon they ran 265/50/20's and all the tires were Toyo Proxes S/T. Last edited by Alvin; 06-22-2006 at 09:33 AM. |
