Carpet install questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have new floor carpet, kickpanels, and rear cab carpet to install. Ive got lots of questions.
Do I need to get padding for the whole carpet area on the floor?
Do I glue it all in, or does it lay down itself OK?
As far as the carpet on the rear of the cab, should I put a piece of particle board or something similar to get a smooth surface to glue the carpet to, as opposed to the big ridges in the body of the back of the cab?
Im thinking I will use some strong velcro for the kick panels at least...
Any suggestions are appreciated.

I didnt use any glue on the floor carpet. it is pre molded and fits like a glove. by the time i put the sill plates and seat in, it was fine. i didnt use any padding except the pre existing mat. its up to you if you want to use the sound deadener padding, but i chose not to.

i did use some spray adhesive on the kick panels. your velcro idea sounds ok, but i wanted it to be permanent since my kick panels looked like crap.

If you've got everything out, I'd spend the extra money and lay down some dynamat first, then the padding, then carpet. Your interior will be almost soundproof and will totally deaden any road or engine noise. It's worth it!

I already have B-Quiet Extreme covering all of the interior, so thats taken care of. I guess I need to get some padding.

Nice, you'll like that stuff. The padding just makes it a little cushier, and acts as further sound deadening.

67 fleet did you also sound deaden/insulate your doors? i want someones opinion that did all that insulation/sound deadening but not in the doors.

Actually right now my doors are the ONLY thing that are done. I covered them in dynamat under the door panel, and stuck some on the inside of the lower door as well. Big difference for my 2 6x9's in the doors. They sound better when I close them now too, not so many rattles. I'm waiting on doing the floor and back of the cab until it gets repainted.
