ECE is closed and I need a quick intall tip - shock kit

I've got some odd looking bolts in my shock relocator package that I'm not sure what to do with. They have a large pan head on one side, a non-threaded shank and then a threaded end and came with 3/8" thick spacers and nuts.

What do I use these for? The shank on the stud is too big to fit through the lower shock mounts...???

If you didn't buy ECE's shock kit, I don't believe you need them.

I did buy their shock kit. Do these studs install from the inside of the truck out? Or should I drill the bracket out so I can install them from the outside of the truck in?

Do the shocks have a metal spacer in them? If so, take it out and see if the bolt fits.

No spacer. These are the KYB shocks and they do fit over the stud shafts. If I try to install the stud from the outside (wheel side) of the truck, The hole in the bracket will need to be drilled out. If I install from the center of the truck, I can bolt this unit right up to the bracket without modification, but it doesn't look right.

I see what you mean now. I don't think that would be a problem though. Is hole just big enoug for the threads to go into? If you don't like that drill the bracket out, it won't hurt anything. Check this article out:

Re: ECE is closed and I need a quick intall tip - shock kit

I read that article and wish you could enlarge the pictures, b/c the stud they have mounted in that lower bracket isn't the same one that I have in my kit. It just seems to me that the stud should mount to the bracket, and then you mount the shock to it. If you just bolt the shock to the bracket it won't be as strong of a connection.

Re: ECE is closed and I need a quick intall tip - shock kit

I installed that kit with the ECE KYB shocks. My bolts are mounted outside to inside. Makes the shock change a little easier down the road.
I'd wait until you can contact ECE directly before you do any drilling

Well, that's what I'll do then. I guess that extra spacer that they provide squares everything up pretty well.

Do it the way you have it, dont drill a thing!!! They are designed like that for the sole purpose of making it ride nice...

Re: ECE is closed and I need a quick intall tip - shock kit

I called an apparently they have 2 different sets of studs/bolts that they provide with the kit. They've experimented with different setups to see what they want to sell. My kit looks like jsbgump's and is supposed to be bolted just as he did.

The guy on the line was going to send me the studs that they normally ship with these kits now but since we figured out what I had, I just used those. I'd prefer to have the studs - because I'm anal - but the bolts will work just fine.

Its amazing how big of an improvement the shock relocator kit made - even just driving around the neighborhood.
