gas tank swap_thought

Has anybody thought about using a tank out of a G-series van? I was looking at mine and it looks like it would fit. What do yall think?

Re: gas tank swap_thought

or how about one from a early 80's F150. rear tank of course. I have a used rusty one that I am using as a mock-up for the stepside. I just need to graft a GM sender on the ford hanger.

I`ve always been afraid to use a Ford part on my GMs.I guess it`s the bad apple theory.I`d like to know about the van tanks, too.I have an`86 Suburban I want to take the tank from.

Re: gas tank swap_thought

nice thing about the van tank if it will fit is that the filler is plumbed for drivers side already

so is the rear ford one. and it doesnt hang too low beyond the bottom of frame. great feature for lowerd trucks. the only problem is it fills through the side of the frame.
check out www.tankstopans.com
look up a 84 F150 rear tank

Re: gas tank swap_thought

I used a Jeep CJ tank on my 66 4x4 I used to own. It was a pretty good fit although the Jeep sending unit caused the gas gauge to work backwards. The gauge was accurate, it just worked backwards. In my case E meant enough and F meant you were Fu............ well you get the point. When I sold it I gave the new owner this info AFTER I was paid.
