72 - 3/4 ton - 4 WD
I'm new to this board, it looks real good.
I have a question, I'm looking at a 72 - 3/4 ton - 4WD. The owner says that the motor is E-series Corvette out of St. Louis. We're in NE Kansas. I've never heard of this before and was looking for someone that knows & understands this year of trucks. Any help is really appreciated. |

In this case pics speak volumns. Any chance you could get some shots and a more detailed discription of the truck? Everyone knows that GM motors are easy to come by, even easier to put on a set of vette valve covers and make up a story to increase the value of a regular SBC. (maybe the seller is honest, maybe not) The first thing is to get the numbers from the rasied pad on the block, right below the Pass side head. Copy down the numbers and if you can see them the casting numbers on the rear drivers side. Then look them up on this web site: http://www.mortec.com/location.htm As far as the whole truck goes rust is the biggest evil to look out for, unless your a body & fender guy with a lot of time on your hands. Other factors are what options does the truck still have. You can find these on the glove box sticker (if it's still there) be sure to double check them with the truck. If it says Tilt/Comfort Wheel Pkg. and does not have one installed then the value goes down. Looking forward to seeing some pics and hearing more about this truck. We have a few Kansas members here who might even know the history of that truck. |

Re: 72 - 3/4 ton - 4 WD
Welcome to the board and possibly the K/20 club(no official club).I`ve never heard of an "E" code Vette motor.What "E" is he talking about,in the casting numbers?If it`s in the model or VIN number,it means V8.For instance,this truck is a CKE2......model,meaning C=Chevrolet(72 GMCs use a T),K=4wd,E=V8 and thats any one offered:standard 307(not listed on options)or 350,2=3/4ton.If the truck was a 6cyl. it would say CKS2....,the S for the motor.A 2wd with V8 would be CCE2....A 4wd 1/2t V8 would be CKE1...
Maybe it does have a Vette motor. It means nothing if he can`t verify it in some way, words is words.I don`t really think a Vette motor would be the ideal set-up for a truck like that, anyway. So,why the boast? That thing needs bottom-end power(torque)and HP in a lower RPM curve. Give any more info you can, glad to help. What price range are we talkin`?

V0217TRL is the number that is on the front passenger side of the block.
I checked it this morning, but I left without the VIN number off the truck. Brain-cramp I guess. As always any help is appreciated. |
