Newbie need some help!
I have a 79 Gmc Heavy half that I purchased a year ago from my father,I want to start fixing it up and redoing it. I want to put new headers and exhaust on the truck but the problem is,he tells me the engine is a 72' 400 sb I dont know what kind of car that came out of and all I have is some numbers on the block if i give them to someone can they tell me the year and model it came out of? I also need to know if the lug is 5-5 offset because I am buying some rims and I havent got any clue if the offset is right. I really appreciate any help.

Welcome to the board The engine year really doesn't matter too much as long as the spark plugs are the straight style like most heads have. When you get angle plug heads then the headers run into trouble. Look for headers that fit the truck year and 2wd or 4wd depending on your application. Also the wheels are 5 on 5.
