tailgate noise

Been driving my 69 a little more with the nice weather and have been irritated by the tailgate banging around. I have fixed most of the rattleing replacing all the rubber bumpers and stops, but haven't tried or know how to go about stopping the noise it makes from going up and down on the trunions(sp) when going over bumps in the road. How do you go about about stopping that? TIA...Randy

Re: tailgate noise

I've never had this problem so,what I'm going to suggest is just an idea.Try to find some PVC pipe in the diameter of the trunions.Class 200 PVC is used for irrigation systems(Yard sprinklers)and has a very thin wall.Cut a couple short sections of it and put over the trunions inside the cups.

Let me know if it works so's I kin patent it.

This may not have any effect for the your issue with the trunions.
Mine had a issue with noise from another area.
This worked for me and it was cheap

Talking Re: tailgate noise

I shimmed the trunions to bring them closer to the tailgate which stopped the laterial movements. This fixed the rattle I had but yours may be different.

Re: tailgate noise

you're probably right about it being the trunions, but it could be the linkage from the handle to the latch. there's supposed to be a foam ring on it so when it hits the insides of the tailgate, it's silent.
