Please HELP!!! Need pics ASAP
Well, we just rebuilt the front end of the 72 suburban, we did one side at a time and put things back just as they were...since we did one side at a time. Well I take it to get aligned and the guys say that the upper control arms are on the wrong sides??? So I go ahead and have them switch them, figuring they know more than me... and this place is highly recomended by a few people I know...but when I turn the wheel sharply to the right or left, the wheel tilts out real bad at the top and the wheel looks like it is only riding on the outer edges of the wheel? I have had this thing aligned twice already and the previous place told me the track bar was on wrong, so we switched it out and put it so that it is VERY close to the crossmember???
Basically I would like to see some pics of how close the track bar should be on 2wd's to the cross member, and should the dowel to line up the the upper control arm shaft be toward the front or the rear of the vehicle??? I think having these two questions answered would greatly help me finish what was supposed to be a simple rebuild and has now turned into a real cluster-F!!!! Thanks in advance! Happy Fourth to US ALL!!! |

Re: Please HELP!!! Need pics ASAP
Drivers side, passenger side, passenger side from the front, and the center link from underneath.
* What did they mean by "track bar"? * Do you mean the dowel on the lower control arm shaft?

Re: Please HELP!!! Need pics ASAP
I think they are referring to the drag link bar??? Yours in the last pic looks to be a few inches away...mine right now is VERY close to the cross member...
Thanks for the pics! |

Re: Please HELP!!! Need pics ASAP
Actually, that pic makes it look far away. I can barely squeeze a finger in there. Did these help, or do you want me to snap something else?

Re: Please HELP!!! Need pics ASAP
No problem. The only thing I can think of that would let the top of the tire camber out like that would be that they didn't tighten up the studs that the shims go behind, that would let the upper control arm "fall out" and tip the top of the tire out.

Re: Please HELP!!! Need pics ASAP
Probably 1/4", maybe 3/8" at the farthest.

Re: Please HELP!!! Need pics ASAP
Something else, double check the coil springs to make sure that they are seated where they should be.

Re: Please HELP!!! Need pics ASAP
Make them switch them back, and pay for the tire wear and alignments!
