lets play, NAME THESE PARTS! (off my 68 core support)

this may sound silly but i sure as hell dont know what these parts are for, can anyone help tell me what they are, i labeled them 1 and 2 in the picture, im guessing 1 is for the horn and 2 is something for the lights.

a horn and voltage regulator to me.

yes #1 is the horn and #2 is the voltage regulator.
the best thing i did was get the regulator removed and bought an alternator with the regulator built in it only cost me about $100 for the new alternator and all the wiring now no probs at all with current

hymm i dont think my 72 has a voltage regulator on the core like this 68 clip does. maybe someone already swapped in an alternator with the regulator built it, ill have to check.

As I understand it, '72 was the first year for the internal regulator, but it was set up for the old style plug, a one-year only piece. I even happen to have one, if anyone needs it.

My '72 4x4 has (had) the core mounted voltage regulator, and had a non-regulated alternator as factory equipment.

mid 74 was the change over at the same time they did the HEI the GM guys the thougt the Voltage was steadier with the internal units for the hEI

Ok, but here's the kicker: I actually have one of these one-year-only alternators. It *is* internally regulated, and it *has* the old style connector. Do I just have the year wrong?

Some one installed the newer style in your rig...
Is the external reg still plugged in? If so, you need to unplug it and jump the wires like this pic shows

It's not in my rig. According to my brother, who removed it, it came out of a stock '72 . . . . No External regulator to by-pass; no mods to the wiring.

Oddly, my longhorn has the voltage regulator there, and I dont think it was ever hooked up. I dont see any non factory wires in the area, I suspect the assembly line put them on, then some trucks used them, some did not? I am not trying to pretend to know, but my truck, which also has dual batteries, is a very original truck, but I always wondered what that box was doing there, when it clearly has not been used. Does the mystery deepen, or?....

JKU, is tere another regulater on the side of the batery tray? I've seen a few with extras when the extra battery got installed.
