For you guys who have a/c trucks, how hard is it to put in. I have a a/c cab 72, I took off compressor. How difficult to get everything back together, and what needs to be changed?

I guess what I'm trying to say is with a system that is so old even though it has been sealed is there anything in the system that would be wore out, or just needs to be replaced. When I broke the seal on the compressor freon escape, so I assume it was sealed. if that's the case what would I need to start with to get it going. My idea is dryer, compressor. Anything else, or should I look into a new coldair unit.

Dont let the system sit empty for every long, rubber dries out and will not seal at that point.

At minimal I would recommend replacing the drier then fire it up and see if you have any noise and if it cools well.

Suggest you consider converting to R-134 and having a garage do it. Do NOT use any so-called kits from auto zone, etc. to do it!
Suspect you will have to buy new dryer. May very well be cheaper than refilling with R-12 anyway.

I just did this,
After buying all the hoses under the dash and rebuilding the heater box with new heater core and replacing the seals and the heater valves compressor dryer and expansion valve cowlvents.
A/6 Compressor and dryer and expansion valve alone were $200
I installed all the components.
I had the sytem converted to 134A and system flushed and charged right at $450 this had to be done in order to get the warranty on the compressor.
So all in all quite a bit of money and it does work but still need to work on getting it cooler. Maybe and electric fan and more cab insulation.
If I had it to do over I would do the Old Aire system for the cabs with factory air.
In fact since they are located so close (Fort Worth) I should have taken it to them and and had it done right.

Hutch is right--Olde Air may be the way to go. I ended up with about $800 in mine. That is a nice truck tho--------!
