what kinda electric fans are YOU running?

im about to drop the 383 in the longbed. i want that thing to stay cool and run even better. now i know in the 88-98 body style alot of people are running fans out of ls1 f-bodys. are yall doing something similar or did yall go aftermarket. im looking for something i can just wire up to a switch and kick on whenever i need it

I've got a set of fans off a Dodge Dynasty, with both fans wired to run when the ignition switch is on.

in my 383 i run a single one off of a super t-bird..94-95 or so.
It is two speed and big so it cools great. Bladers are aggressive, kinda like the taurus blades.

now i do not own any "trucks" so perhaps my measly blazer based opinion is not what you needed...

You stated you want to run it on a switch, so you can hit it when needed, are you looking for an aux fan in addition to an engine driven one?

no im removing the engine driven fan. i want to be able to turn on and off whenever because i had a friend with electric fans hooked up to turn on and off automatically and the system failed and they remained off and he overheated. i figure if i have all the control it would be the best.

I have mine wired If the engine is on to have them on .. Too Much Liability to forget about

I really prefer the thermostatic system . Gm uses them all the time without problems Your friend was propabaly improperly installed or poor connections.

You can wire a dash light in series with the fan and then you'll know when it comes on.

I'm runnin a Flex-a-lite Black Magic 150, has a probe in the radiator fins that turn it on when things get warm. It keeps the motor cool and I haven't had any problems so I'm satisfied.

I'm running the old air products setup on a hot 454. it keeps cool on these 95+ summer days. Its a bolt in and it ain't cheap but it works.

I got a Ford Taurus fan out of late 80's and early 90's 3.8 V6 . Cost me 11/31 at the pullapart in Nashville. Finally got it installed yesterday, but haven't driven the truck yet. But it BLOWS hard. Igotachevyor2 came over yesterday and helped hook it up to run when the ignition is on. I'll try to get pics of it later. I'm going to the serpentine belt system and thought this would show it off more and you'll get better gas mileage.

I'm running Wes's (Heartbeat) setup - dual 12 inch fans. I love the fact the thermostat keeps the fans running after I shut down to cool down the motor and headers and "stuff". Works great - I recently drove up the mountain (goes from 3500 feet to 8900 feet in 13 miles) at 80 plus the whole way, temp didn't go abouve 210 the whole time.

I don't know if clearance is an issue for ya, But I was trying to make room, and ended up with the flex-a-lite 220B(it's a dual puller). It has the flex-a-lite thermostat thingy with the probe that goes into the rad, and a relay for the a/c. and the price was right in my budget(actually less than expected)
You can adjust it, and I like others have mentioned above, and I have mine set to run when the engine is on.. It doesn't completely cover the rad 100%, but at 15.5" x 26" it's darn close, and it's worked really well down here in hot humid S. FL.

this has me wondering if the fans I have from a late 90s Caravan will be enough. its a dual fan setup. as of so far I havent had any problems in the last 3 years so I havent installed it yet. I have a clutch fan and no shroud on a new 3 row.

Today I gave the old general the ultimate fan test - the local 4th of July Parade. It was over 85 degrees today, and I sat in the parade for almost an hour at an idle, with long tube headers heat soaking away.

Temp never went above the number I set the fans to come on 200 degrees. I had several car nuts come by after the parade and comment on how cool it sounded to have dual electric's noise coming out from under the hood of my classic 67. Loved it.

Dual 14" Perma-Cool fans mounted to a home made shroud.
Each fan pulls 2900cfm...so the literature says.



Wired with two 30amp relays,one activated by a temp probe in the head and the other comes on with the A/C and is also wired to a manual switch.The 1st fan is also wired to the manual switch as well.
