Still alot of these old trucks around...

Well I had some free time this mourning, so I thought I would go hunting for an elusive 68 small back window truck. Needless to say I did not find one. (YET, I will find 1 or 2 of them around here).

Anyway, in the meantime I did count 38 of our trucks around town, including four Blazers and several untouched shortbeds. I wish I could have gotton closer on this first truck, but in was in a secure area with a fence around most of it. In the full size pic you can see the 8-400 emblems.

Here are a few of the pics. When I started out, timewise, I set a limit of 35(saw 3 on the way home), but probably could have seen 3x's as many if I had the time.

Re: Still alot of these old trucks around...

Sleepy Eye is a small rural town of about 3500 people. I know of at least 6 that are daily drivers here in city limits. There are a couple parts trucks and at the local pick N pull there are about 5-6 plus a 72 jimmy. I see them everyday everywhere I go. I guess that explains why the prices of these truck are still relatively cheap.

Re: Still alot of these old trucks around...

On my recent trip to San Antonio, I was surprised at how many trucks were in Texas that people obviously still use as daily drivers. We have some here in Florida, but most are just rotting away in people's yards.

Re: Still alot of these old trucks around...

When I got mine in 2000 I saw them everywhere in Missouri. We had like 5 in my high school parking lot. I hardly ever see them being used for daily drivers anymore. I think most finally got too worn out, or were retired because of high gas prices (what I did with mine). There are quite a few at some junkyards, but most are picked clean of all useable parts.

They're all over the place here too. I've been tempted to do what you did, just go with a camera and shoot a few.

Re: Still alot of these old trucks around...

My area is full of them as well, trouble is they are all very beaten up after many years of farm work and being out in a pretty harsh environment. But that is what they were for...working. I still see 3-4 farmers driving them on a daily basis in my little town of 1000.

Re: Still alot of these old trucks around...

You rarely see them here in town, go to the smaller towns around Ohio, and they are some what commonish, but nothing like when I was in Texas. They were as common as parking lot gravel in central tx in the 90's.
As for locating a small window 68... my money says you'll never find one.

Re: Still alot of these old trucks around...

They are everywhere here in South Texas. I've seen a lot of nice original and some customized trucks, but most of 'em are farm trucks like mine used to be. I saw a blue '69 or '70 pulling a horse trailer one day, kinda funny 'cause I drove right by it pulling a hay trailer with my truck. Anyway the K20 Suburban I have was owned by an elderly man that lived about 10 miles from our town and it's the only 67-72 Suburban I've ever seen in our area. I did see a dark olive '69-'72 GMC 4x4 Jimmy and a '71-'72 K10 dark olive and white Suburban in Kerrville(near San Antonio) where my Uncle lives. The 'Burb was at a used car lot and they wanted $3500 for it I think, and the Jimmy was parked at a hardware store. I'll bet I saw at least 6 67-72's up there in Kerrville besides those two.

It's good to see I'm not the only sick-o who drives around scouting out where these trucks are.

Re: Still alot of these old trucks around...

I think I know where a small window 68 is here in southern MN. I saw it at a body shop. The shop owner said it was his sons and that he thought ot was original, but couldn't say for sure because he didn't know the history.

I rarely see anything older than a 90's truck around G-ville.... but if I head out to the sticks there's still a few of them hanging around.

sameyrasmea72,
i believe that is my old white jimmy in that last picture. i live in amarillo and the guy that bought it drove up from lubbock to get it. should have never got rid of it, but it makes me feel better that it still looks good and is getting taken care of.

i also see alot of our trucks running around here in amarillo.

Re: Still alot of these old trucks around...

That Jimmy was a good looking rig! I saw the Jimmy,Blazer, and the blue 67 all within a few houses of each other.

Here is a pic of a similar blazer I had a couple years ago. Not near as nice. It was # 2 of 3 that I had and never did any thing with. The ODD thing is that I bought 2 of them in Amarillo. Ya'll must be loaded down with Blazers/Jimmys.

My brother just got back from there and said he saw an super nice original mustard blazer up there. Have you seen it ?

Re: Still alot of these old trucks around...

I was at work last night when I read this thread. I started thinking and I thought of 5 trucks I knew of right away. Then on the way home I saw 2 more of them, one I have seen around town before and one I hadn't. My city has a population of only 210,000 and we have very severe winters and road salt is used in the cities. There are still tons of our trucks running around and I'm going to start carrying the digital and when I have 10 or 15 trucks I'll post the pics.
