Tranny fluid backing up the dipstick
What would casue the transmission fluid to back up and out the dipstick? I have not added any since I got the truck and have only been driving it a couple of days. not very far each trip either. I drove it to get it inspected (it passed WoooHooo) and notice a nice big puddle and a few little puddles since then.
Thanks |

Overfilling it could sometimes be as bad as underfilling it. It's a good way to bust a seal, or pop the pan gasket. It will sometimes shift rough.
When you're putting fluid in it how are you checking the level? You know there's only 1/2 quart difference between the ADD and FULL marks, don't you?

I haven't added any... check in park with a warm engine... it just regurgitated this fluid today after a short drive.

That's wierd. My 400 was overfilled once on accident, and it never belched out the dipstick tube.
What I meant by detent is does it shift ok when you kick down into lower gears under harder acceleration? Maybe one of your servos is refusing to actuate, and is causing significant back-pressure??? or you have some kind of problem with your valve body...just a guess.

There is (should be) a full "hot" mark on the dipstick. Perhaps the previous owner filled it to that mark when it was cold. But it still shouldn't be puking out the tube.

Many moons ago I had a TH350 that did that... the guy I bought it from did a drain and fill (he didn't realize there was a filter in there-- either that or he wanted the fluid to be pretty when I checked the dipstick). Anyway, after it warmed up it started urping up the tube, then spewing on the manifold and causing much smelly smoke. When I got it home, after much troubleshooting, I yanked the pan and found a filter that looked like it had been breaded with catfish batter and left in the fryer too long. It was nasssssty. Anyway, swapped filters out, refilled and no more problems... that is, until I was "power shifting" the Camaro floor shifter he had hacked into the truck and zinged through neutral and straight into reverse. It was kind of cool for about 1/16 of a second until I realized that I had just whacked my transmission.
