Fuel pump question-'96 1/2 ton

It's my kids. Fuel pump is proably shot, but just to satisfy my curious mind, how much volts and or amps should there be going to the pump? There are 4 wires, grey, purple, black and black / white stripe. Just wondering.

I don't know about which wires you should be getting it on, but it should get 12 Volts unless I'm mistaken. The way I generally daignose a bad fuel pump in these model trucks is strictly by ear. If you turn the key to the run position, but don't start the truck, you should hear a high pitched buzz coming from the rear of the truck. If you don't hear it, or its sounds kinda sickly, you've more than likely got a bad fuel pump. I know there is a more rigorous method for diagnosis of this issue, especially in a truck as new as '96, but this method hasn't failed me yet.

yea thats about the only thing i could think of as well if ya dont hear that buzzer when the get is turned then that pump is more that likely shot. Mines when out but only cuz i ran it down w/o gas lol. Brought used one been fine since. But the desending unit on my old and on the used one are messed up. Reads correctly but just moves around when turned on/off. Ordering and new one from ebay they beat the dealer price by like half.
