Popping noise when starting van - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

When I start up my Chevy van it makes a "pop" noise under the hood. It only happens on first start up of the day. Have any ideas on what to check? Thanx, Michelle

It's a 1978 chevy sportvan. 305. 8cyl. G-10

If you can try starting it up, running it a bit, then letting it sit all day... at end of day restart it and see if it pops again. The first start of the day thing makes me think after sitting something is sticking, possibly starter solenoid. You could also have someone under the hood to listen for the noise and perhaps narrow down the location of the sound.
