92 column shift problems OT

This may be a bit OT but I have a 92 chevy step van with a tilt column, auto column shift. The shifter is worn out pretty bad, it has so much play in it that it hits the ign key when passing through the gears.

I have tore columns apart before, but I cant find any info on this model. Is this a part that bends? Wears out? Something that can be fixed from the bottom or do I have to dissassemble the column?

A diagram would be nice but I cant locate one.

Thanks for any info!
