Will this blazer stuff fit?

I had mentioned wanting to use this tailgate filler panel and bumper on my SWB, so will this stuff swap straight from a blazer over to a pickup? What about the mounting brackets for the bumper?

There's a junk blazer behind where I work and I think it's got all these parts, so it'd be great if they'd work.

Re: Will this blazer stuff fit?

The middle bumper brackets are made onto the frame on a Blazer. I think you might be able to cut the frame ends off and reweld them to your frame. The outer braces will work fine. I think the tailgate band will work if you can swap out the inner bracketry.

The Blazer band can be made to work, but you need a handle relocater kit...

N2, that is EXACTLY what I'm looking for!!!! Well, the only difference is that the pictured one doesn't have a parachute on it

I just couldn't locate a picture of what I wanted. Now can someone tell me if that is all blazer stuff or if I have to order some other parts? I checked the blazer behind our shop and she's got all those parts.

Re: Will this blazer stuff fit?

Band is the same,
Bumper is the same
OUTER brackets are the same
There is no inner brackets on a Blazer.

And as N2 stated, you will have to relocate the handle.

The tailgate band bolts to the gate so you'll need to drill some holes that trucks may/may-not have. IIRC, you'll also need different hardware for a truck vs what you would use for the same installation on a blazer gate.

Re: Will this blazer stuff fit?

I'm not too concerned about the inner brackets, the bumper is there solely for looks and nothing more. I'm going to try to get all the stuff cheap enough that I can keep my shaved tailgate on hand, but I really like that stock clean look. And yes, I already intended on relocating this handle too...

Re: Will this blazer stuff fit?

I got the inner brackets from Chevy Duty. I'm pretty sure Jeff offers them on his site too.... http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/merc...387RearBumpers .

You have me and Chris mixed up.

Steve, if Chris sells them, get them from him...great service and he is "one of us".

I'll be sure to look into that. I'm all anxious to see this setup on there now

I think I'll have to go steal my dad's parachute for mach-up purposes even though I really don't need one yet... (need it at 150mph trap speeds, I'll be happy/lucky with 130mph on this setup) but it is a nice feeling when you're pushing a 4000 lb. brick on stock brakes down the 1320.

That is what i want to do with mine, eventually. I have not had any luck finding a Suburban or Blazer bumper in good shape, though.

Can a trailer hitch be used with that bumper? I would assume a receiver type for a pickup would still fit, but mine bolts to the frame and bumper.

Re: Will this blazer stuff fit?

Here's another question...

What about that filler panel that goes right in front of the bumper to fill the gap between the body and itself? What I'm wondering (need to go look at that one behind the shop again), is whether you could shorten that bumper a few inches and suck it up close enough to the body that you wouldn't need that filler panel. The licence plate opening is pretty wide anyhow, so narrowing that up would help the appearance of the bumper alot IMO.

Re: Will this blazer stuff fit?

Steve, all you have to do to tuck the bumper is oblongate the holes on the brackets where they mount to the frame...and maybe cut the ends of the brackets a little shorter in order to tuck them in. Once you have the brackets modified, you should be able to slide them in and out however much you want since the holes are now oval and not round. Make sense? I plan on doing this on Yeller when I get that far.

I wanted to do the same on the front, but the inner bolts mount directly to the frame...which sits tight against the back of the bumper...so I would need to whack off some of the frame. Not something I want to do...so the front will stay where it is.

I've never minded the front bumper where it's at, so it'll stay. In looking at this blazer behind our shop I noticed that the opening for the tag is pretty wide, so the bumper wouldn't hurt to lose about 2-3" out of the center, and that would really set the sides up to the rear quarters nice. This bumper is in good shape but it could use a re-chrome, so I don't feel too bad if I decide to hack it up a little. I will say however that if I go so far as to narrow it, there won't be bolt heads on it anymore either.
