LT1/4L60E Swap
First thanks Hart Rod for all the links to previous threads. Looking to pick some brains here, let me know your thoughts.
Do I need to get my stock FI harness reworked? Where is the best place to mount the motor (what mounting holes to use, I-6 or V8)? AC delete pulley, do I need to hack the frame to get it to fit? Does the 1996 Caprice 9C1 police edition have the VATS and LIMP stuff? Where can I find a good fuel tank swap with an in tank fuel pump. Want to put a tank in place of the spare tire. Would buying a Hypertech programmer for the LT1 be beneficial? And last but not least, if this project is too much for me to wrap my head around does anybody want to buy this swap if I decide to give up? Thought I'd through that last one in there just in case... Josh

Re: LT1/4L60E Swap
I'm going to be doing this swap too.
I don't have answers to many of your questions yet. But, I will be using a 94-96 Caprice 9C1 as the doner car. It has the iron block LT1 and not the aluminum block, like the Vette and Camaro. The 9C1 also has a posi rear with disc brakes. I measured the rear and it's pretty close to the same width. For programming, I will be using Brian Herter at pcmsfor less.com. He can reprogram the computer and take out things like the air pumps and change shift points and many other things. He's less then a chip and you get exactly what you want. He's well known in the Impala SS/ Caprice community.

Re: LT1/4L60E Swap
There is no such thing as an aluminum block LT1. The corvettes and camaros do have aluminum heads, but it stock form the caprice cast iron ones actually flow better.

Re: LT1/4L60E Swap
The LT1 should fit with no problem using the v8 mount points. I think you can use the newer style motor mounts, but you might have to fab something... You don't have to worry about a distributor in the back, so the LT1 can sit fairly far back in the engine compartment. A tranny crossmember that works with a 700r4 will work with the 4L60e. Don't waste your time on the hypertech. Tunercat is cheaper and does A LOT more. The stock Caprice PCM harness should work or you could get a painless harness that would be easier but $$$. Same for the FI/harness. Your stock one won't work without much pain...
If you use the Caprice or a 4th gen Camaro tank, it will make your fuel pump/return line issue easier. This is the area where you will probably run into the biggest issues. Not bad, but a bit of a pain. Consider replacing the stock fuel pump with a Walbro 255.
