No brake lights
hi guys, first post on this board reguarding my 98 2 door tahoe.
heres the problem...i dont have any brake lights. everything else works: b/u lights, turn signals, and lamps, just nothing when i hit the brakes. however, the third upper brake light does work. all fuses are good and the bulbs are fine. checked all the wiring and it was good also. i dont know how long this has been going on, but i just noticed it the other day. any advice is appreciated.

Re: No brake lights
I have just went through this with a 97 pickup I just bought. All worked but the brake lights. Turned out to be a blown 30 amp fuse located in the fuse and relay box on the driverside inner fender next to the power brake booster. Apparently the PO had hooked up to a trailer with bad wiring or something. 50 cent fuse and brake lights work again for me.

Re: No brake lights
Did you check the stopper and switch on the brake pedal?

Re: No brake lights
Of course he did... The cab mounted brake light works. Your emergency flashers and the turn signals work (I take it by your statements), then the wiring to the brake lights is good, so I would look for a fuse or a broken wire between the brake light pedal and the frame, somewhere after the cab brake light connection. The cab mounted brake light has to come off of the brake light switch before the interface for the turn signals or it would flash also.

Re: No brake lights
Yeah, I missed the part about the third light working. I guess it was time to go to sleep then
.I had to replacethe rear harness on my 96, as the wires were cracked/broken in a few spots. Everytime I thought I found the break, another would show up. That rear harness (at least on the step bed) has a a few areas that are very tight, and makes a sharp bend in the harness.

Re: No brake lights
Stab in the dark here,,but I just had a problem with my rear lights and found it to be the adaptor used for the trailer plug. If you have a trailer plug at the hitch try removing it and plug the two origonal connectors together.
