Remove Steel Dash?

I tried to do a search thinking someone has discussed how to remove the steel dash (not to be confused with the dash pad), but I couldn't find anything.

Is the dash held in with spot welds as well as bolts? I recall there being bolts, but couldn't figure how to get the entire dash out.

Please help or point me to an old thread on this topic. Thanks.

Re: Remove Steel Dash?

Remove the 4 bolts right and left side under the dash, the drill the spot welds under the windshield rubber or cut it uner the dash pad where the slots are.

Re: Remove Steel Dash?

Yeah, I thought it must have been spot welds somewhere. Thanks.

Re: Remove Steel Dash?

See all the holes on the window lip, those are the spot welds that need to come out

Re: Remove Steel Dash?

That's exactly what I was invisioning. Thanks for the pics. What do think is easier considering the reinstillation, drilling the spot welds or cutting the slots?

I am little unclear about the slot cutting...this must not allow for the top of the dash to be removed, huh?

Best to cut the spot welds...

In the last pic that mike posted you can see the slots/ holes under the dash pad. That is just where most people cut it if they cut it. I had my window out so I drilled the spot welds.

If you still have your windshield in, cut the slots. If you do not have a windshield in or you plan on replacing it anyways, go for the spot weld cuts. My truck was a basket case when I bought it so there was no windshield to worry about. I think it is about the same amount of work either way, the slots will need to have more welding though.
