Gas tank float/sending unit problems? Maybe some answers!

Ok, since I've seen others w/ fuel tank sending unit/ float level issues, I think I might have some answers.
To see if your sending unit is working or its the gauge, disconnect sending unit wire at the tank. With the ignition on, the gas gauge should peg out above Full. If it doesn't the gauge/fuse/wiring is a problem.
If it does peg out above full, plan on pulling your sending unit out.
In the attached pic you'll see the 3/8" pickup/sending unit outta my in cab fuel tank, '68 1/2T Longbed. Along w/ new float/strainer screen on left, old ones on right which are only a couple yrs old. There are 5/16" sending units also. The units are the same except for fuel line size. New floats are NOT available from chevy. But are from Ford
Anywho I don't have the PN, but the guys at my local chevy dealership can hook ya up, like $6.50 plus shipping. Bob Thomas Chevy, 541 382 2911 either Mark or Sean (seanv@bobthomas.com) in Parts. You'll also need a new strainer screen, $15. Sender unit lock rings and o-rings were still available. The new float just pops in the wire retainer and the strainer just pulls off and presses on.

Or you could get all the parts mentioned plus some, for $24 at the Truck and car shop:http://www.truckandcarshop.com/trucks60_72/t60_078.html. Just another option if you need more than a float which they list for $6.
