Measurements

I need to buy tires and wheels for my truck so I can at least roll it around. How do i go about finding out the correct size wheel? I guess it would be the backspacing? And how do i know a specific 5 lug will work. I just want to make sure I buy wheels that work, so how do i measure correctly?
