tail lamp switch/relay????
I need some help identifying this mysterious electronic device. It makes the tail lamps come on when you turn the headlights on. It is rectangular and it has a dark green and a light green wire going to it. The wiring diagrams refer to it as the BKNG. LP. SW. This is not the stoplight switch that is mounted to the brake pedal assembly. What is this called and where can I get a new one? More importantly, where does it mount and what "flips the switch"? I know my description is vague, but this is all I know to say. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: tail lamp switch/relay????
backing light?
Brake light? There's no relay in the tail light circuit, the power goes from the headlamp switch, straight to the tail lights. |

Re: tail lamp switch/relay????
This is a switch (or rectangular box of some sort) that turns the tail lamps on when you turn the headlamps on. The wiring diagrams show it as the BKNG LP SW and it is with the neutral safety switch (http://www.geocities.com/chevroletc1070/instrum1.html) I don't have a neutral safety switch. Do I need one to make this work? My brake lights and turn signals work great, I just need to fix this switch so my tail lamps will automatically come on when I pull the headlight switch. Thanks.

Re: tail lamp switch/relay????
if your tail lights are coming on with that you've got a wiring problem because thats for the backup lights (clear) above the taillights(red) it mounts on the column with the neutral safety switch

Re: tail lamp switch/relay????
Weird. Now it kind of makes sense. The original owner butchered the wiring trying to hook up trailer lights. Maybe I got those wires switched putting it back together. Thank you so much for your help everyone!

Re: tail lamp switch/relay????
In our trucks the neutral safety switch activates the back up lights. It's all built into the switch.
It looks like the left one in this pic.
