No rear view mirror

Was the inside rearview mirror an option in 68? Mine doesn't have one and never had one and doesn't even have mounting holes for one. Could this be a deleted item on the custom camper option? It just seems odd to me that it doesn't have one.

Optional untill '70.
Interesting thing on that though, the feds required it in '69, but it was still an option on the Gm trucks.

I never knew that. Ya learned me somthin. LOL

I know one thing...After I painted the inside of my truck and put some of it back together, I went for a short ride and didn't have the mirror installed yet. That was a weird feeling! Like driving with one eye closed.

I don't go for originality on my truck,so I found a mirrow from a late model GM that had dome light and map lights made in the bottom of it. Simply glue the bracket to the windshield and hide the wires behind the windshield rubber.

The interior is now lighted well when i open the doors, eveyone knows the factory dome doesn't get the job done.

Without knowing, but just guessing, do you think that the Custom Camper option deleted the inside mirror, with the understanding that an inside mirror would offer you an excellent view of the front of a slide-in camper? That may have been the thinking back then. I know slide-ins were popular then, but at that time I was actually into cars, not trucks. The only trucks I had access to at the time, were all painted Air Force Blue. But, it makes sense to me that the inside mirrors were optional, with the "West Coast" mirrors being the ticket.

It was an option period. If it was not asked for, it was not recieved.
Chevy man...I have thought of that, but I like my big chrome one. I put one of those in my old Honda and loved it, esp when i was delivering pizzas.

Hey Ray, my '67 Custom Camper came with a mirror. It has lotsa options but only the small back window (anticipating a slide-in, I think) and it was sold new from a camper dealer, so I'm pretty sure it came with a camper in it. I don't have a mirror option listed on the glove box door, but assume it came with the interior "Custom Group" option.

Actually, I think 69 1/2 was technically the cutoff for the rear view option....

I heard that somewhere.
