trans. swap?'s 86 k10 700r4 to?????

Ok I posted this on the 73-87chevytrucks.com also.

What has to be changed or done to convert my 86 k10 swb 700r4 to something else like a 4 speed, th400 or th350.

I'm looking at a non lock up setup for a th350.

What has to be changed? I'm not sure on the transfer case as to what it is. I was lead to beleive it to be a factory deal but pulled the 305 and found it to be an 85 block. So it could have been changed.

I'd like to go with a 4 speed and I know I'd need the pedals and linkage and all that, but do I need the standard shift transfer case?

Do I need the crossmember for it? Can the original one be changed or modified w/o welding? Will the driveshafts work?

Same thing on a th350 will it bolt right up? Can I reuse the transfer case? if so does it need to be a long or short tail th350? Will the driveshafts be the same? What about the trans. crossmember? Move it back or forward? Anything else to modify?

I ask because it cost 1900 to rebuild the 700r4 with EVERYTHING new.

I can get ahold of a regualr 2wd or car th350 fairly easy and cheap, and even have it rebuilt for cheap. Say 250 for a th350 rebuild compared to 1900.

I'd love a stick shift but I know it's hard to come by and it seems that I'd need to buy the whole deal, trans, and t case together so it all mates up.

But will a th350 mate up to my transfer case I have or no? What am I looking at needing to get or change to switch over to a th350 th400 or 4 speed?

Also I have an old camaro 4 speed saginaw, don't know if it could be made to work or not.

Any ideas? I know somebody has changed their 4x4 to a stick shift, or went from a th350 to a 700r4, or changed from a stick to auto come on anyone I need some help. Even if it's the opposite of mine like someone going from 350 to 700 r4 or from stick to auto please link me or something so I can read and find out some info and specs and what had to be changed.

Thanks.

Re: trans. swap?'s 86 k10 700r4 to?????

Can someone please tell me if a th350 either for a 4x4 or car is shorter then the 700 r4 and if that means driveshafts and crossmember will be off???????

Anyone used the spacer plate adapters I see on ebay?

They are like 1-5/8's thick and bolt where the tailshaft is, and say with that spacer and your factory tranny to TC adapter your driveshafts will be the same and nothing needs changed, other then using a 2d short tail 6" th350 and having the shaft cut down.
