I need to lighten up

I know some people say that fiberglass takes away from the value of our trucks, but I value my truck very much, fiberglass or not. But my truck definitely needs to go on a diet. What are some ways to lighten it? I was thinking a fiberglass hood, but what other parts can I buy in fiberglass? Who's got the best/cheapest fiberglass parts?

Try US body, I think they are in Florida. They have a whole front clip for about $1200. I believe their site is www.usbody.com .

1986 K30, 350/400/205 dana 60 and 14 bolt. I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone.
1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed.

1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm

Are you lightening up to go faster? If so, you could "lighten up" the truck a lot by swapping out that 307 for something with a little more umph...

Otherwise, US Body, who also has a lightweight cab, doors, bed, etc., and then swap in plexiglas for your rear and door glass.

After all that if you still have money, tube frame.

A little more umph would be nice, but I'm not swapping out the 307. Everyone swaps out their 307, no one actually tries to get power out of them. Different is good.

Yeah, but the fiberglass listed above will cost you close to $10,000 and you're still not going to be fast as a result. I'm not knocking your interest in keeping the 307, but if your objective is fast, that's simply the wrong engine for the job. It's not built for high RPM (which is how you make a small displacement engine fast), and it's not build for excessive crank load, and it's not built to flow lots of fuel/air. But it makes a great reliable work engine...

Try www.creativeglas.com they carry alot of 67-72 parts. Im having them make a 1 piece tilt front end for my '39

Why exactly does your truck need to go on a diet? If you want to go faster, you'd be better off spending time on tuning and upgrading your engine or getting a 400ci or 350ci and spending money tuning that engine. You could spend thousands of dollars on fiberglass body pannels, and gain only a few tenths at the drag strip. Body pannels are the lightest parts of your truck. The most $$ efficient would be to relocate the weight you have. Moving the gas tank, battery ect is a good start.
