Bendix and Delco Boosters - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I ordered a Delco booster from rockauto.com and the box arrived today with a Bendix model inside. Cardone P/N 5471125. They list 5473709 as the Bendix.

Is there a difference that matters? Should I send it back?

I was informed by more than one counter parts guys from NAPA that bendix boosters only match bendix MC's, and same with Delco. Maybe someone else can add to this.

I would see if it will fit before sending back. When I bought a rebuilt one I was given a bendix and not only the master cylinder wouldn't fit the mounting studs were off by half a hole and didn't fit my bracket. Delco went on with no probs.

When you look up a M/C it does not specify Delco or Bendix.

Here's one of each side-by-side.
They have the same spacing, same brackets, and the rods (that are made differently) stick out the same distance into the MC.
There shouldn't be any problem. Just check/measure to be sure.

OK, Bendix has a 3 3/4" x 4" bolt pattern and the Delco is 4"x4". I pulled the firewall brackets together with a little force and it fits OK.

The linkage rod appears to be close but not exact, slightly shorter.

The adjustable push rod should be OK if you can adjust correctly.

Since there appears to be no specific p/n for the M/C I am curious how you know what you have. I tried adjusting the push rod. The specs say 3/8" to 1/2" play before it engages the cylinder. It say press brake pedal until you see fluid movement, yeah, sure. Push slow and see if you see movement.

I installed the thing as I needed it and adjusted the push rod to the minimum length. I don't like the feel and plan on adjusting it out some.

What a PITA.

That was the same problem I had with bolt pattern. When I got the delco booster the rod in it was adjusted to fit mc and all that I had to do was check the rod hooked to the pedal. I guess you cant just run down to the local NAPA store, which helps on these deals. Good luck with it.

Yeah, when it Italy no NAPA and when something arrives and "almost" fits it sucks even more.
