My New '86 GMC

Hey, well thanks to FatGuy, Brian Folsom, GREAT GUY, I had my girl, and her father drive to MARYLAND to get it, FROM KENTUCKY, and yes, if y'all remember my thread about buying her ring, this is the girl I'm gonna propose to, and the family I'm marrying into. willing to drive like 7 hours one way to go get a truck for me, because I'm in FL. That's the good stuff. Anyway, picked the jewel up for $900. She thinks every truck I get is ugly, so her opinion dont really matter, as long as she rides shotgun next to me in it. 1986 GMC Shorty. rebuilt 350, with TH350 that may need a goin thru, not sure what I'm gonna do about that, either 700r4 or rebuild the trans. It's got an Edelbrock Performer intake and carb on 'er. I gotta figure out it's current hot condition. Fix heater core, either put on correct manifolds or switch to header, HEADERS. and fix the column. That's about it, to get it streetable and she'll be a good daily driver. I'm looking for parts always so if ya got 'em, post 'em up on the For Sale board, incase you gots something I needs. Hope ya like the beast. I do

Re: My New '86 GMC

I figure a couple hundred bucks worth of front panels and a couple patch panels I'll fix er up. Bumper in the bed, I'm gonna repaint it black, over gray, All black interior with a later 90's seat, without headrests. I got some plans for it and finally some income to make it happen. Come on. Lemme know what you fellas think. Ideas are always welcome and I need parts!!!

I would say he did VERY well. Oh, you were talking about the truck...

I hate to say it buddy, but I have to agree with your girl right now. From the front that beauty has a face only a mother...er....trucker could love. Regardless of the toothless grin, you still got a good deal.

Re: My New '86 GMC

Haha. Bigarmzz, I am putting money into her. too much it seems, just spent 1700 on an engagement ring, would like to have spent more but the Marine dont pay an E-2 too awful much, and I am paying for like 5000 of her new 8500, 2000 Honda Accord! There is one thing I dont understand about her, I get completely yelled at for buying a 900 dollar truck and paying for it with my own money, and I can help her pay 5 grand of her new car????? WITH MY MONEY? It's alright tho, she's worth it, and she's in school to be a nurse, so I'll let her be my sugar mamma!

Besides wanting it to be a DD and listing what you plan to add to it, what other mods would you like to do to it? You could keep it stock looking or make it a bit more custom with a drop and new wheels. Seems like a good stance with nice wheels adds to the look of a truck. Then, give it a 'face lift' and a decent paint job. Then maybe you will sway her view of the truck. She may even end up competing with you the drive the truck.

Re: My New '86 GMC

Yea, I got plans for it, either a static drop with a decent rake and some big wheels, Black and gray paint... I got a picture photoshopped, of the paint I want, just not of the correct drop. And she AINT driving my truck, she drove my last truck, '98 C1500 with a stick, taught her to drive it. But we bought her a car. She better leave me alone about my pickup.

Just wait until you get married and start producing offspring. I am convinced the whole process of marriage and kids is designed to remove all the extra cash a guy might happen to have in his pocket.

Oh so true!!

As for the truck, get the tranny built to handle some horses, soup up the motor and use it to beat ricers. Nice looking girl too.

Re: My New '86 GMC

well since there is no grille why not install a phantom grill, seen them on ebay for a pretty good price. my sons 82 had one, wish I could find a pick of it, but it makes the truck look pretty awesome espically if you plan on dropping it.

Or swap in a 89-91 Blazer/sub radiator support and grille. That looks good, too.

Re: My New '86 GMC

Sounds like an all around good deal. Good looking girl and good looking truck. Hope all works out well with it all. I think a drop and rims will make that truck look bad azz. Paint job would be kool too.
