Battery Cable.....

HY guys got an 83' C10 with a 350 and was just havin a few problems with the positive side of the battery goin to the starter. The old cable is all burnt to rat sh!t and starting to go.. and we all know that it will go at the worst time.. Anyways just wondering where the best place is to run the new cable to the starter. The old one isn't straped to anything, its just dangling in between the engine and the headers.. which is NOOO good. So i was wondering if anyone has ran it a different way like along the frame rail or something. Any pictures or info would be great.. every bit helps

Thanks Again Guys

Scotty

Re: Battery Cable.....

I ran welding cable down the frame and over to the starter on an old Camaro. If you're close to the header, you could sleeve part of the cable with a insulated spark plug wire boot.

Re: Battery Cable.....

I would go from the battery down to the frame rail with the rubber clamps. Follow the frame rail with 2-3 clamps about 12" apart then run the wire straight over to the starter

Re: Battery Cable.....

I ziptied mine inside the frame rail then used a small radiator hose to insulate it. If I smell it burning then I've got time to get it off before shorting it out.

Re: Battery Cable.....

The original design was the cable ran down the side of the oil pan through a metal clip that held the cable away from the exhaust.

Re: Battery Cable.....

I think im goin to run it along the frame rail then across to the starter. I also got some of that high heat isulation, the same as the header wrap stuff, but its like a big long sleeve. Anyways thanks every one for your imput.. Just wanted to see whut my options were..

Thanks Again.

Re: Battery Cable.....

Check where your exhaust runs down between the frame and the motor. The headers on mine makes a little hard to run along the frame and then over to the starter without protection. That is why I ran mine along the motor's oil pan.
