HEI vs Sunpro tach install?????
Well guys i must confess i have not benn under the hood that much in the past 2 years except to change the oil and to polish the chrome. I forgot i had the HEI style dis. i thought it was a coil and dis set up not the HEI. Any ways were should i hook the green wire of my aftermarket tach to? i know some of yall have the same tach so maybe you can help. also i went with the 3 inch but have not desided were to mount. also please include were you made the wore connections in the fuse clock and to the dimmer switch. also an shots looking at the wheel from the side would help so i can see were you ran the wires.
Thanks

Re: HEI vs Sunpro tach install?????
There is a "tach" terminal on the HEI itself. Hook the power wire there, one to a ground, the other to a light source.

Re: HEI vs Sunpro tach install?????
Most tachometers have 4 wires, ground (black) , 12V (red), light (white) and tach (green). Like BB73 mentioned the green tach wire goes to the spare terminal on the cap. It will actually say battery on one and tach on the other.
As far as placement goes just put it where you can best see it. Guage pods are fairly cheap and very visible when mounted to the piliar.

Re: HEI vs Sunpro tach install?????
what they said. I put mine in (older sunpro from our part's box) and just hose-clamped the mount to the steering column. Put power to the ignition-on lead for the radio, ground to the steering column bracket on the firewall, yet to connect light, and ran green to the tach port of the dizzy.

Re: HEI vs Sunpro tach install?????
typical speaker connectrs. Just put a quarter inch speaker syle spade on it and slip it on. Depending on clearences, you may have to remove the dizzy cap to see which terminal it is and get it on right.

Re: HEI vs Sunpro tach install?????
I agree a flat spade style connection on the distributor body. Use a mirro and flashlight to see it. I mounted my tach just above the dash on the "A" pillar, by using a flat piece of aluminum stock from a hardware store and one of the screws that was already on the post (holding the plastic trim). If you don't have the trim drill a 1/8" hole and match the strap to the hole. I cut the end of the strap (that went up by the windshield rubber at the same angle as the rubber and then used that rubber as the brace for the other end. By doing it this way, all I had to deal with was the one hole in the post. I then drilled two holes in the strap and mounted the tach to the strap just above the dash pad. I then ran the wire down through the dash (by the windshield rubber and there was only about a four inch piece of wire exposed.
