New ignition cylinder install question

Ok...I've got the old ignition cylinder lock and ignition switch removed;
I've installed the new ignition switch and reinstalled the bezel and but the new keyed cylinder lock does not want to go back in.......
am I missing a step here somewhere? or do I just keep working at it thinking up new cuss words like I'm doing now
any advice would be much appreciated

As long as the key is in the cylinder lock and is turned in the accs. position
it should just pop right in. Good luck

I pulled the switch out..............
IT'S THE WRONG FRIGGIN SWITCH......imagine that
when look down inside where the cylinder bottoms out at it appears the two switches have a different pattern;
the old cylinder drops right in the old switch and the new cylinder drops right in the old switch but neither will drop in the new swithc
oh well lessons learned and a few new cuss words too;
and became an expert on removing ignition switches too

Duh......what a dummy I am;
took the switch back to parts store, had the old one with me;
told them the 2 switches were different and the cylinder lock wouldn't work with the switch he gave me and to look down inside the shaft of the new one and see how it looked different;
he did, he smiled, he reached under the counter, pulled out a screwdriver and turned something in the switch, took the cylinder lock and key and popped it right in there.......DUH......thanked him, invented more cuss words and sheepishly walked out

LOL... at least you found a parts store clerk that don't run to the computer and ask you if your truck has a V-8 w/AC everytime you want something.

Yeah this is the old time parts store with the stools at the huge counter and actual parts catalogs although they do have a computer system also; more importantly they have experienced people behind the counter; they a affiliated with Federated Auto Parts and they generally have the stuff on site as opposed to having to call a warehouse;
I have both AutoZone and Advance Auto located across from each other within a half mile of my house but prefer to go out of my way to this place
