Re: rearend eaton ho52 help
So you're talking about filling up a eaton posi rear end right?
I have a 12 bolt eaton posi 3.73 and it required 2 1/2 to 3 quarts of 85/90 weight gear oil. 6 sounds like a lot unless I'm missing something. Good luck, B |

Re: rearend eaton ho52 help
This rear is a full floating axle and has the big round 10 bolt cover, almost looks like a big truck axle. I don't know exactly how much it holds, but the easy way to know when it's full is to put gear oil in it till the level is just below the fill plug hole. Now since the plug is stuck I don't think that method will work.

Re: rearend eaton ho52 help
6 pints for an eaton 10 bolt. Another way to fill is to remove a cover bolt at the same level as the drain plug. You can squirt warm oil in that way. Put the bolt back in with sealant.

Re: rearend eaton ho52 help
Fred hit the nail on the head. What I`ve done in your situation is,put 6qts in the axle tube, then remove the cover bolt at the plug-line to let extra lube out. It`s just a bit quicker.
