My K-20 has wood bed that is in pretty good shape. I'm pretty sure this truck is going to be sitting outside it's entire life and get used for hauling stuff that would really tear up a really nice wood bed. Thinking about swapping out for a steel bed that I could possibly get Line-X'ed or something similar.

The questions are these:

Could I convert the wood bed to steel?
If conversion isn't easy or possible, you think someone / anyone would trade me a steel bed for my wood bed?

Your will retain your bed sides, wheel tubs and tailgate, everything else gets swapped out. You will need the front bed panel from a steel bed (I have one), the entire bed floor with the steel floor rear cross sill. If that wood bed floor is really nice I might be interested, sorry, I have no steel bed floor, just a front panel.

steel...i replaced my wood stepside bed with steel.i used 3/16" sheet iron instead of a factory steel bed floor.with the extra wieght it rides better and gets better traction on wet roads, etc.

agree with lilred67 above -- I used 14 ga deck plate ---for a short bed about 150 pounds. mine was steel to begin with tho

So you are saying I can convert my wood bed into a steel bed with correct parts(?). Front panel is already dented and needing replacing, so I got taht going for me.

Wood in current bed is beginning to buckle and swell from sitting outside.

I have a complete steel bed that is already disassembled that I could help you out with if you weren't so far away.

I would consider trading the pieces you need to swap out for your pieces. I have the front panel and the rear cross section . Other than these pieces I believe everything is the same. I might possiblly have the steel floor also for a long bed. Shipping wouldn't be to bad for front panel and the rear cross piece.

I have a pretty good steel floor that I was going to add to mine but if you have wood bed parts that aren't to bad I might trade. What kind of shape is your stuff in? Not worried about the wood, how are the cross braces?
