Front crossmember removal

I really have two questions;
Can I drop the front crossmember without pulling my engine? I still can't find a definitive answer; can I swap my '67 3/4 ton front crosmember and all that comes with it, for a '73 or newer up to '87 2wd 3/4ton and get away with it?
Thanks, for the help.
Paul

Re: Front crossmember removal

Yes... Support the engine with a hoist.
Yes... You'll need to oblong a couple holes.
