Attached is a picture of the leaf screen that is installed on my 71 K10. It is made out of 1/4" hardware screen, painted flat black,
with cutouts for the wiper mechanisms and squirters. It is held in place by the screws that fasten the cowl to the cab. I used black
"dum dum" to hold the screen to the cowl until it was screwed into place. Cost of the screen is under a dollar, (I bought a roll for $6 which will do the 9 trucks that we have). I got sick of having leaves in the gutter all of the time!

I tried the same thing using soffit sceen but couldn't figure out how to hold it in place while I put on the cowl so I gave up. The soffit screen was only about 4" wide. It is probably much easier with wider screen.

Thanks for the tip. It looks nice, can hardly notice it is there.

I agree, good tip! I'm going to have to do that too. I have to clean crap outta there all the time! Another thing with my truck, is some of the more adventurous leaves end up flying out into the cab, when I open the vents in the foot well!

Now If I could just take care of the birds that sit in the big tree in my yard, and crap on my vehicles all day! I think the neighbors would be unimpressed if I invested in a shotgun!

Sure looks better than mine. I use plastic gutter screen wire tied to the outside.

Yeah that's a great idea, looks slick too. Chevy/GMC fell down on this one. The stock cowl is an open invitation to all kinds of trash.

I used black fiberglass porch screen on mine. Keeps even the small crap out. It has sagged just a little in 2 years, but my truck is always parked under it's personal truckport, so it has not been a problem. Definately is a sad commentary on GM engineering!
Anyone that wants to keep a truck nice should do this, it's cheap, easy, and worth the few minutes it takes to do.

Leaves and junk in this area is a major couse of rust. That is a great idea and the cost is enough for a poor boy also.

I too used fiberglass screen but fastened it to the underside of the cowl with hot glue. It doesn't look that great from the bottom but who cares?:p

So far it's working great. If all these cars/trucks had these, it would have avoided alot of problems.

I picked a set of cowl guards up from CS/M (Cheyenne Super-Man) from down in Texas. They fit great, and have all the cut-outs for the washers tubes, and they mount under the cowl using the existing screws/ bolts. They can be had in flat black or chrome. His name is Gary Terry, and his phone # is 1-800-399-7851. He sold me a bed also. Great guy to deal with. Hope this helps? Happy motoring.

I too used the black fiberglass screen, but I used silicone caulk to lay down a bead, lay the screen on top, work in it, then laid another bead of silicone on top of it. Just looks non-professional when when you see it on the backside. Looks great from the top/outside.
