Code scanner
Good morning all,
I have a 87 V-10 I know how to use the paper clip to check codes, but is there a scanner to pin point problems, I am showing a code 45 that covers many things and to trouble shoot gets expencive. I tried auto zone and advance but thier scanners don't go back to 87. Be nice to own one does any one make them for our trucks? Thanks Mike |

Re: Code scanner
Sounds to me like they don't WANT to do it. The scanner needed to do that would be the same one needed for a 95. OBD1 is from like 80 or so untill 95. I HIGHLY doubt they would send away a 95 GM, sayign they don't have the software.
However, a code 45 is a rich reading O2 sensor if memory serves. Nothing else other than that, or a bad ECU/harness. |

Re: Code scanner
Check your coolant temp sensor, fuel pressure, MAP sensor, and finally injector spray pattern. Last but not least, make sure your O2 sensor is doing crosscounts. If you want to scan your 87, you can buy a cable online, and use WinALDL on your laptop for the cost of about 40 bucks for the cable, shipped.

Might help. I get a code 45 too. Truck still idles good and runs good so I've never worried about ti too much. I replaced a few things of the cheaper sensors and still get the code.

Re: Code scanner
Well, I chaned my o2 sensor code has not come up yet but still running like before so I think it is a matter of time. Wish code 45 was just 02 sensor but the book says tbi or evapoator canister or fuel pump and a few other things thats why I would like to narrow it down.Russell I don't have a lap top ,would like to know if someone makes a hand held scanner
Thank all Mike |
