Bench seat interchangeability

Can anyone tell me what other bench seats might fit the '67-72 pickups? My original '67 bench seat is collapsing where the driver sits (it was like that when I bought it, I swear... ). Rather than try to repair the existing one, I thought it might be feasible to find a complete seat from a later-model truck or car that would fit (with minimal drilling/cutting). I'm getting tired of sitting so low!

Thanks for your help,
Dan

The 88-98 benches come pretty close. The front holes come very close to lining up exactly; you just have to loosen the bolts on the bench frame and "stretch" the frame slightly. And that puts the rear of the seat in a place where it'll need about a 1" tall spacer and a new hole in the floor for the bolts. Be sure to reinforce the floor around the new bolt hole--don't want that thing pulling through in a wreck!

Or if it's too close to the steering wheel or too tall, you can scoot it back and drop it down 1" and make 4 new holes in the cab floor for it. Since the cab floor is mostly flat, there's some leeway here on how to do it. The 73-87 floors were not flat and it's not easy to swap those benches into these cabs. Good luck!

Oh, and the 88-98 benches are a slimmer profile, giving some more leg room to tall folks.

Might be easier and cheaper to have the original seat repaired. I had a local shop replace broken springs, add some new foam in a few areas, and put on new seat cover (I bought the seat covers myself) and they only charged me $65. I couldn't believe the difference. Before, I always felt like I was going to fall out of the door but now it sits nice and firm. You might want to take your seat to a local shop and have them give you a quote.

Unhappy

The '67/'68's were a terrible seat and not worth rebuilding--still wouldn't be any good after. Try to find a '71/'72 seat to rebuild

I have to disagree on the 67-68 seats My original seat is in great shape 280,000 on truck the original foam is good and springs solid and I weigh 350 and have driven it for 14 yrs and my dad had it since new.. I am recovering it now. the original cover is still ther but it let go at seams and is faded. Mu .02 worth and it folds forward..........................

jostrans68 ,,,, Mine's original too (at least I think). Haven't had mine redone yet but the foam and springs are in great shape.

???? Mine folds forward too. I don't remember my dad's '70 doing that. Was this only certain years or different packages ??

You must have a deluxe seat while all I've been around were standards--which are junk. They only used bed springs with a covering of burlap-then the upholstery--NO foam! '71/'72 seats had a THICK foam over the springs--I have both here. Take a look at the vendors catalogs--the thick replacement foam is not for the early seats--it would set you up too high. When I get the rest of my interior done, I will throw the '68 seat away and put my newly recovered '72 seat in. They will all tilt forward if the nuts are removed from the back support--BFD--not supposed to be that way--what's the point? No room back there unless you've removed the gas tank. just my 5 cents !

Buckets?

are you set on bench seat, or are buckets an option?
cuz man, i bolted in a couple of 94 jeep grand cherokee buckets and they fit so nicely...and believe it or not, it really improved the ride in the truck, went from really bouncy to nice and comfy and tight fitting...and they lined up to the holes from my bench (67) except i had to drill the 4 inner holes.

Heres my original bench (1970), I know, looks like sh$t with the cover off.
I didn't want to get sidetracked on this one as I was in the process of doing body work. So I put the cover back on after cleaning it and put it back in the truck. It sags slightly, but still comfy. Maybe I'll replace it later, but for now, it will just continue to collect fartzzzz.

Ive got a fully recovered and refoamed 71 seat in my 68. It sits up a good bit higher but man is it comfortable compared to the original. Night and day ! God bless my neighbor who gave the new interior set to me.

This is my 68. The seat was in it when I bought it. It feels much better than the buckets in my 67.
